O.A.R. – Butler University – Clowes Memorial Hall – Indianapolis

Setlist After attending a great O.A.R. concert in Bloomington a couple of months before, I really looking forward to a repeat. My sister-in-law Wendy, who works at Butler, was kind enough to stop by the box office the day tickets went on sale and got Nicole and I some great seats. Unfortunately, there was some confusion about the start time because the Clowes Box Office can’t figure out Daylight Saving Time. The Clowes website has one time, the ticket another, and the O.A.R. website another. We pick what we think is the correct time but arrive about 30 seconds after the O.A.R. starts playing; weRead More →

INXS – Ruth Eckerd Hall – Clearwater, Florida

My wife has been a avid INXS fan since high school. INXS and Genesis were my favorite bands then, but I didn’t have her same level of devotion. When I found out that there were going to do a reality show to find a new lead singer, I was excited. When my wife found out, she was ecstatic. Fast-forward a few months and we’re in Florida and the show is about to being. Nicole is hoping the the show will measure up to previous show from she’d seen in the 80s and 90s. I’m hoping they don’t sound like a cover band of album-version tuner.Read More →

O.A.R. – Bloomington IU Auditorium (2006-02-20)

Seats: Row 1, Section B, Seats 107 and 108 Attend with: Nicole Setlist: link (O.A.R. Setlist Archive) I was first introduced to O.A.R. at the 2004-06-20 concert in Noblesville, IN where they opened for Dave Matthews Band. Although I thoroughly enjoyed DMB, it blended into the many others shows I’d attended; what made the impression was the opening act. I’ve since purchased several O.A.R. albums and finally tonight, saw them perform live again. I’m very impressed with how the band has grown, matured, and blended over the past year-and-a-half. Lead singer Marc Roberge retains the same crackling and raspy voice, but has improved dramatically inRead More →

Nicole and I went to see the Diesel Brothers last night at Wild Wing Cafe in Mt. Pleasant, NC. We were looking for something fun to do on a Wednesday night during our vacation, and these guys were just what we were looking for. We were pretty lucky, because there is not that much live music around Isle of Palms during the week, off-season. We were lucky to find such a talented duo. Lot’s of interesting covers and they have a CD of originals as well. Their talents go beyond playing well. They can play well while thoroughly intoxicated. True professionals of the late nightRead More →

PhatNoise PhatBox: Initial Impressions

In preparation for an upcoming road trip, I purchased and installed at PhatNoise PhatBox in my 2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan. Initial impressions: holy crap, this thing is awesome! Why did I wait so long?!? Installation was extremely easy, just plug it into the satellite radio harness and it shows up as a CD changer, controlled directly from the factory head unit. To get it hooked-up and working in the car, total time was about 10 minutes (still need to screw it down though). I know iPods are extremely popular; here’s why I think the PhatNoise blows the iPod away. controlled by the factory head unitRead More →

Hootie & the Blowfish Covers List

I love learning how musicians are influenced by each other. One interesting display of this is which songs certain artists choose to cover in live and/or album performances. In going through some live recordings today, I found that Hootie and the Blowfish have covered quite a few artists from a surprisingly diverse spectrum. I knew about the covers on their album “Scattered, Smothered, and Covered”, but that’s just a portion. What got me started with seeing them in concert a last month and hearing a several songs but not being able to place the original artist. Below is a list of every cover song I’veRead More →

Some general automotive commentary

I own a Porsche Boxster and I’m a huge fan of all things Porsche (well, except for their outrageous pricing schemes). I’m not sure that I’m going to buy a Cayman. After all, it’s the only coupe that costs more than its convertible counterpart; it is identical to the Boxster convertible version. On the other hand, the Cayman is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve seen and it delivers more power than any Boxster that Porsche has ever sold. The Cayman, like most Porsches, causes a visceral reaction, which leads to loyal owners returning the dealership despite irrationally high pricing. The only thing IRead More →

Hootie & the Blowfish – Military Park – Indianapolis (2005-09-04)

Wow! I’ve always liked Hootie & the Blowfish, since I first heard them around 1994. At least 3 times since then, I’d considered going to one of their concerts, but never did. Today, finally, I did. I was expecting a great concert. It was, but it was better than that — it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. I liked the new material, loved the older material, and enjoyed the covers. The band was full of energy and the songs had grown and matured from their album versions. With between 6 and 8 people on stage, the layers of sound and avenuesRead More →

Here Come the Mummies – The Patio – Indianapolis (2005-09-03)

I attended my second Here Come the Mummies show at The Patio in Broadripple. These guys are so much fun. In the past year, the songs have grown into “live performances” rather than “songs from an album”. My favorite song of the night was definitely Ra Ra Ra; the percussion break and solos were much better than any other version I’d heard. My other favorites from their first album (Terrifying Funk From Beyond The Grave) were Believe (in Things You Cannot See), which started the show with mummy march cadence into the building and on to the stage, and Strange. Songs from their second albumRead More →

Michelin is Forgiven

I guess things have changed since my last post. Michelin has admitted that they made a mistake in designing their tires and has offered refunds to race fans. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I’ll have no problem buying Michelin tires again and I’ll definitely be at the USGP next year. Too bad this wasn’t the response initially, but Michelin definitely cleaned this up in the best possible manner.Read More →
