Nicole and I went to see the Diesel Brothers last night at Wild Wing Cafe in Mt. Pleasant, NC. We were looking for something fun to do on a Wednesday night during our vacation, and these guys were just what we were looking for. We were pretty lucky, because there is not that much live music around Isle of Palms during the week, off-season. We were lucky to find such a talented duo. Lot’s of interesting covers and they have a CD of originals as well. Their talents go beyond playing well. They can play well while thoroughly intoxicated. True professionals of the late nightRead More →

Hootie & the Blowfish Covers List

I love learning how musicians are influenced by each other. One interesting display of this is which songs certain artists choose to cover in live and/or album performances. In going through some live recordings today, I found that Hootie and the Blowfish have covered quite a few artists from a surprisingly diverse spectrum. I knew about the covers on their album “Scattered, Smothered, and Covered”, but that’s just a portion. What got me started with seeing them in concert a last month and hearing a several songs but not being able to place the original artist. Below is a list of every cover song I’veRead More →

Hootie & the Blowfish – Military Park – Indianapolis (2005-09-04)

Wow! I’ve always liked Hootie & the Blowfish, since I first heard them around 1994. At least 3 times since then, I’d considered going to one of their concerts, but never did. Today, finally, I did. I was expecting a great concert. It was, but it was better than that — it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. I liked the new material, loved the older material, and enjoyed the covers. The band was full of energy and the songs had grown and matured from their album versions. With between 6 and 8 people on stage, the layers of sound and avenuesRead More →

Here Come the Mummies – The Patio – Indianapolis (2005-09-03)

I attended my second Here Come the Mummies show at The Patio in Broadripple. These guys are so much fun. In the past year, the songs have grown into “live performances” rather than “songs from an album”. My favorite song of the night was definitely Ra Ra Ra; the percussion break and solos were much better than any other version I’d heard. My other favorites from their first album (Terrifying Funk From Beyond The Grave) were Believe (in Things You Cannot See), which started the show with mummy march cadence into the building and on to the stage, and Strange. Songs from their second albumRead More →

Dave Matthews Band – Verizon Wireless Music Center – Indianapolis – Noblesville (2005-06-13)

A new album and re-found energy. Dave Matthews Band seems refreshed. As always, Grey Street was fantastic. Smooth Rider was a bit boring. You Might Die Trying is an awesome live song that sounds similar to live version some under-appreciated songs from the Everyday album. Louisiana Bayou sounds like one of the few songs from the new album that has long-term live show/fan appreciation potential; Robert Randolph owned this song. All Along the Watchtower as the finale – classic Dave Matthews Band closer. It had been about a year since I last saw the band and seeing them again was an extremely enjoyable experience. This was the freshest I’ve seen the band in about 3 years. I didn’t expect Warehouse as an opener; the violin playing at the end was new and energetic and set off a great beginning. Granny and Gray Street, two of my favorite songs, followed. Next came a song I’d never heard before. There were a total of 5 new songs that I’d never heard. Other than Gravedigger, I hadn’t heard much new in quite some time. Grace is Gone was stated with aRead More →

We attended this show with friends Bryan and Tammy Willett. We arrived early and tailgated at Camp Huggy Bear before the show. For some reason, the crowd seemed very thin and dead. Perhaps it was because I did too much tailgating prior to the show. Unfortunately for my wife, I was overly entertaining. Setlist: Dave Matthews Band June 29, 2003 Verizon Wireless Music Center, Noblesville, IN Pig G1 Too Much G1 Grey Street G1 When the World Ends G1 Angel G1 You Never Know G1 #41 G1 Don’t Drink the Water G1 The Dreaming Tree G1 Jimi Thing ~ G1 Kit Kat Jam G1 GraceRead More →

This was the second Dave & Tim show I’ve attended and clearly the best. I funded some college students semester when I purchased front row tickets off of Ebay, and it was worth every penny. I drove up to campus a few weeks before the show to pick-up the tickets in person — I wanted to make sure I had them in-hand. The night of the show, I was supposed to have been attending an economics class that was part of my IU MBA program, but instead I skipped and went to Purdue University with my wife. An amazing 3+ hour show. This is theRead More →

This is the second DMB show for Nicole and a I this summer. The set list for this show was very similar to the setlist played in Cincinnati, with half the songs being the same. This is not to say that I didn’t enjoy hearing them again — the show was excellent. Compared to Riverbend, the sound at Deer Creek (aka Verizion Wireless) was much better. Riverbend was very muffled and overly bass-heavy where I was sitting. Plus, the low ceiling of the Riverbend amphitheater gave a very cramped feeling. Deercreek is much preferred. The Stone is a great opener and was just enjoyable theRead More →

Nicole and I made the trek to Cincinnati to see DMB. For some reason, I decided at the last minute that we needed to see two shows, so I ordered tickets last minute on Ebay. As we arrived at the venue, I was surprised by the gravel parking lots, the abandoned carnival we walked through to get to the stadium, and the cramped feeling of the amphitheater; it’s big so why does it seem so small? Before the show started, I ran into my brothers high school girlfriend Heater – I was trying to figure out why I knew her; I knew I recognized herRead More →
