I was sitting at work wishing I could go somewhere for lunch and watch the inauguration. Then I went to CNN.com to see if I could catch a live stream. I was surprised that a Facebook application popped up beside the video and I was able to view my friend’s comments in real time. It was like watching with friends even though I was sitting alone in my cube. A very plesant surprise – well done CNN!Read More →

Baja the Cat – a.k.a. Mr. Kitty

Baja, a.k.a. Mr. Kitty, was gentle, kind, and had the unique ability of befriending anyone he met.  When visitor would come to our front door, he was there to meet them. When guest would sit down, he would make his way over to say hello.  When a guest would spend the night at our house and left the door open, Mr. Kitty would go visit them before returning back to “his” room. People who disliked cats said they would change their opinion if all cats were like him. Baja has been there through every milestone of my adult life. He was there when I finishedRead More →

The first year with little Ainsley has been fantastic and it keeps getting better. I’ve relished every day with her. Looking back at pictures from a year ago (and even 4 months ago), it’s surprising to see how much she has changed. I spent some time in Windows Movie Maker and put together a photo slideshow video.  Here it goes:Read More →

10 Years of Porsche Bliss

10 years ago today, on July 25, 1998, I took delivery of my 1999 Porsche Boxster. During that time, I’ve experienced 43,000 miles of top-down convertible bliss. My rule-of-thumb is that it should be driven only with the top down. I don’t want to be one of those top-up-on-a-beautiful-day people. Early each year, I look forward to first clear day above 40 degrees so that I can put the top down, the collar on my jacket up, the heated seats on, and enjoy the brisk prelude to spring. I’ve been determined to keep the car throughout the changes in life that typically cause owners toRead More →

Porsche PDK Dual Clutch Transmission Arrives

The one performance technology that has been lacking from Porsche vehicles is a dual clutch, electronically controlled manual transmission. The wait is now over. Porsche was the first to develop this technology (about 25 years ago) but one of the last performance brands to implement it. Below is an excellent video explaining how it operates, but the benefit is instantaneous upshifts and downshifts with perfect engine speed matching. It will be available in the Model Year 2009 911 and 2010 Boxster/Cayman. Some additional details: This is a 7-speed transmission. 7th gear being is an overdrive gear for fuel economy.  Max speed is obtained in 6thRead More →

The Bourne Ultimatum – Best Movie of the Summer

I’m not going to write a comprehensive review of the movie, I’m just going to sum it up like this: The Bourne Ultimatum is the best movie of the summer. The plot is smart, the action scenes are intimate and intense, and the time line is ingeniously tied to the previous movie. Casino Royale was the best James Bond movie ever and The Bourne Ultimatum is better. My entertainment advise for the weekend is to immediately pop The Bourne Supremacy into your DVD player for a 2-hour refresher because you don’t want to miss the ties between the two movies. Then head to movie theaterRead More →

Seating Location: First row, 2 seats right of center Show Rating: 4/5 Crowd Rating: 3/5 I was fortunate enough to get some pre-sale, front row tickets to O.A.R. and, after zero effort, convinced my friend Luke Shiver to join me. We left Columbus after work and headed south to Louisville. With a couple of hours to kill, I suggested we give Browing’s Brew Pub a try. The place was packed because the Riverbats had a game, but it quickly cleared-out. I had two different beers (one was average, the other quite tasety, but I don’t remember the names) but it was the Hot Brown IRead More →

TV Guide List of Top 30 Cult Shows of All Time

TV Guide just release their list of the top 30 Cult TV shows of all time. Of the 30, I counted the number of shows for which I’d seen at least 5 episodes: 11. I guess that is why they are cult favorites and not hugely successful favorites. 8 of the shows started in the 1960s or earlier (a surprise to me.) I’d never even heard of 4 of them. Not a single one on the list began its run during the years between 1975 and 1986, indicating an apparent lull in creativity. TV Guide List of the Top 30 Cult TV Shows of AllRead More →
