This is the best Dave Matthews Band concert I’ve ever attended. Tremendous energy and great performances of every song. My wife and I had pretty good seats on the left side of the stage about 10 rows back.
The song I still remember above all others is Recently. I was hoping it wasn’t a 3-minute version as I had heard in the past several times. This time, it kept going and going — I believe this was a ‘Pretty Girl ending’ version. The crowd (including me) was in frenzy when this song ended.
This show turned out to be rare performance of Sweet Up and Down. I really enjoy this song and hope it makes a comeback at some point in the future. Hearing Bartender for the first time with the band was memorable.
The wind picked up, a storm started rolling in, and Boyd Tinsley started playing Two Step. The band was looking at one another, talking, and shaking their heads in agreement. Apparently they decided to make this a really awesome performance of Two Step to go along with the approaching storm. Thunder and lightning in the distance and getting closer. Mother Nature really added to this song. It was a complete downpour by the end of the song and no one was leaving! There was quite a party going on in the lawn and the band didn’t wait too long before returning to unleash one last song: Tripping Billies. I’m guessing they only played one song because of the weather, but they made that one song worth it.
My wife and I were completely soaked when we go back to the car. We weren’t going anywhere because of traffic. The windows completely fogged over due to our completely wet clothing. I wish every show could be just like this one but I realize I can’t expect this. So I’ll just have to attend multiple “really good” shows and hope for a “really great” one every now and then.
